#MCM (MAVEN CRUSH MONDAY)- YOLANDA RENEE

Everyone has their favorite Youtuber that they may have watched grow from their inception. Many of us Black and Latina girls are natural, and have been for quite sometime. However, when we initially went natural the only help we received for these TWA’s could be found on YouTube. Enter Yolanda Renee. I was one of her first subscribers, I’ve experienced at least three big chops, a bunch of make up tutorials, and have watched the level of creativity soar.

Let’s talk about why Yolanda Renee is one of the best natural hair, WOKE, naturalistas:

1. She’s beautiful and has a beautiful family. On their vlog you can see the love as she teaches her two daughters Taylor and Skylar to love their natural self! There’s wayyyy more she teaches them but I’m saving that for number 2. Her fiancé, Devon, is a dope, conscious rapper is heavily involved in his community and family life. That’s #BLACKLOVE at it’s finest! Devon’s album ‘A Blank Canvas Should Be Illegal” is out now on all major platforms.

2. Yolanda Renee is very creative and savvy. Since, the inception of her YouTube channel she was still the same Yolanda, but you literally watched the quality of her videos soar after about 5 videos she was a PRO!

3. She creates ALL ORIGINAL CONTENT AND TOURS BEING HERSELF! That is one of the most powerful things you can show two young, black girls; be an original and know your worth. In my opinion, it would be hard for Taylor and Sky not to follow in mom’s footsteps because they are obviously naturals. The beauty of creating your own content is Yolanda Renee owns all of her intellectual property. I don’t know about you, but I believe that’s what makes her a maven.

4. She engages her audience on all forms of social media. This characteristic alone makes her approachable, sweet, and just simply nice. A lot of self made bosses don’t have time to surf the content of their platforms, but Yolanda takes the time to engage.

5. One of the most important things Yolanda Renee does, you know besides slay, is share how she does everything herself and her method to get there. To many other girl bosses this information is amazing and FREE. Yolanda has a series on her YouTube showing her methods on record keeping, emailing, monetizing your channel and so much more.

MICROBLADING YAY OR NAY?

There is a new trend called Microblading. Now while it’s a beautiful look, I actually inquired and they use a real blade! Now I don’t know about you, but I feel a way about it.
With Microblading you get a sleek, full eyebrows but is the razor necessary? In this instance yes it is. The microblader has to numb the eyebrow area and then stroke your eyebrows with a blade. To me, this sounds dangerous, but it’s a tattoo so I see the difference.

Bella Curl Hair Product Review

For starters this isn’t a sponsored review I bought the product myself very inexpensively at the store. When I smelled the conditioner I said, hmmm this smells amazing! I bought him home and immediately co washed my hair and flat twisted it to my head. In the morning when I took them down my hair was stretched and not too greasy. The leave in and the coconut curling cream had a great slippery feel. It’s water based and sulfate free!

I suggest a trial period with this product. I’ve noticed that with this product using gel may bring you the white dandruff like flakes.

At Home Spa Day

We all know I love to DIY just about everything, even down to my infant son’s food! So I decided, since I have a new baby and can’t get to the spa…I will bring the spa to me!

So I burned some incense and began my journey to Namaste! I mean, you know, if that’s a thing! Anyway, I decided I only wanted a facial. Here’s what I used.

Materials
Cetaphil
2 cups of water
Fresh/Dried Parsley or Thyme
Coconut oil
Olive oil
Sugar
Aloe Gel
Lotion
Apple cider/water toner

Directions

1. Cleanse your face. I used cetaphil.

2.Boil 2cups of water and fill a bowl with fresh/dried herbs and boiling water. Cover your face and the bowl for 5-10 minutes. Make sure to keep your face about 12 inches away.

3. Exfoliate!!! Mix coconut oil, olive oil, and sugar. Scrub for 40-60 seconds and rinse off.

4. Tone with Apple Cider Vinegar and water, then pat dry.

5.MOISTURIZE! Inuse Fruit of Life Aloe Gel and St. Ives Shea Butter lotion.

DIY Nook Vanity Makeover-Budget Friendly

So I wanted to give my little nook in my bedroom an update. I said that I was going to use it as a changing/makeup station, so I looked around the house for my budget luxurious items. I had an old vanity that I got for free from my neighbor, and a mirror in the living room that only I used, a stool, and a girly Marilyn Monroe photo. I am taking that down, however it serves its purpose for this post. What I didn’t have was something to cover the worn top on the vanity, then I thought hmmm, contact paper! I go to the local family dollar and purchase a roll of contact paper, 2 vases, and a curtain. I was at Walmart for a completely different reason and ended up purchasing what I came for as well as a small, transparent make up organizer. I went to my moms and she gifted me a lamp and another piece I can hang jewelry from. All together my project was less than $20 bucks!

With a little will, there is always a way! Check out the gallery below…

Things You Will Need:

  • old desk or table, either doesn’t matter you’re personalizing it anyway!
  • mirror, I bought mine years ago for about $1-5 at a dollar store so mine was recycled but they go for pretty cheap.
  • Lamp, my mom gifted this so it was free, but some stores like Family Dollar have them for about $5-$10 dollars.
  • Curtain, I bought mine for $5 at the Family Dollar store.
  • Picture, was purchased from Walmart about 6 years ago for about $10 so it was on hand and free.
  • Vases, for hair utensils from Family Dollar store and were literally a dollar

Throw this all together and rejuvenate your space. I promise you when you walk in after a long day it will be worth it!

Halloween is right around the corner and if you’re a creative mom on a budget like myself, you’re looking for an affordable costume. What better way to have a bit of spooky fun with the children and maybe some of your girlfriends than dressing up.

Now I know what you’re saying, why would I want to dress up? I hate Halloween. Yeah yeah I know! But what if I told you that you could watch a professional transform before your eyes, would you be interested in watching? Well you’re in luck because that’s exactly what I’m going to do!

This make up artist is out of NJ and if you look closely you may recognize her from the music scene, as she’s a talented vocalist. However, now she’s tapping into other skills and serving us that Halloween face paint realness!

Couponing Is Life

Frequently I hear people say how much they love couponing, but I never took an interest in it because it seems so time consuming. Then there was Summer 16! A friend of mine had recently taken up the sport of couponing, and more importantly was willing to share! Now I am all about anything that is free because if it’s free it’s for BiBi. She directed me to a site called couponsforprint.com which was a lifesaver! I said to myself I’m going to do a small haul just to see what I had to do in order to save tremendously. So here are some tips.

1. Use the coupons from the site, if you copy and they’re not in color the store will not take them.

2. Pay attention to the quantity you can purchase in a day. For example, one household can purchase 4 identical items at a time in one store.

3. Get what you need and not things that are just on sale, it defeats the purpose of saving.

4. Tell a friend. If you have a friend that is into saving their money it makes the experience more fun!

My friend also told me about the Instagram community that sells coupons, however I don’t know how I feel about this. If I can get and print them for free unless I really need it I won’t purchase them from anyone else. However, if you are adamant about couponing, the hashtag to search is #couponcommunity.

~Understanding Water Weight vs Fat Weight ~ How Fasted Cardio helps.

In the morning your glucose / insulin levels are stable because you haven’t eaten yet. When your body starts to break down foods that you eat it breaks up the sugars from the foods along with whatever vitamins & nutrients are in the foods you eat. By doing FASTED CARDIO & BALANCED MEAL PLAN in you routine will allow your body to pull from its stored resources to burn off 1ST instead of what was recently eaten. The water stored in your muscles and liver is used first in the case of fasted cardio.

What you REALLY Lost or Gained

When you cut the carbs out of your diet, your body empties out the “emergency” stores of carbohydrate it keeps in the liver and muscles in the form of a substance called glycogen. Glycogen is a normal part of our metabolism and allows us to do energy-intensive things like sprinting, for example, by letting us draw on the carbs stored in our muscles for energy.

More importantly the glycogen stored in our liver allows us to keep our brain functioning. A person who is not low carbing needs 100 gms of glucose a day merely to supply the brain’s basic needs. If the body can’t get glucose from the diet it has two choices: use stored carbohydrate–our friend glycogen again, or convert dietary or muscle protein into carbohydrate using a lengthy process called “gluconeogenesis” which takes place in the liver. Because the body wants to avoid using its own muscle fibers for fuel, it does what it can to keep that liver glycogen store filled up.

If you are overweight, especially if you got overweight eating a diet full of starch, sugar, and high fructose corn syrup, it is very likely that you are carrying a lot more glycogen than that estimate.
And the news gets worse, because it turns out that each gram of glycogen is bound to four grams of water.This means that when your liver and muscles are charged up with glycogen you gain four times the weight of that glycogen in water.

When you start a very low carb diet you cut off the body’s supply of dietary carbohydrate and this leads to a rapid emptying of these liver and muscle glycogen stores. And when you lose that glycogen, you also lose the associated water. That’s the reason why, during the first couple days of a low carb diet, you lose weight so dramatically. It’s also why you may feel slimmer and lose “inches.” You haven’t lost fat. You’ve simply squeezed out the water and glycogen in your muscles and liver.But what happens when you go off the diet for even so little as a single meal? If you eat a significant amount of carbs, your liver and muscles grab glucose from your bloodstream to replenish that emergency stock. As they do this, four grams of water join each gram of glycogen and, as fast as you can say, “omg, I cheated!” the pounds you lost at the very beginning of the diet pile back on.

How many carbs does it take to replenish your glycogen?

Not too many. If you were only carrying that three quarters of a pound of glycogen the textbook’s 150 lb. man would carry in his liver, you’d only need about 70 grams of carbohydrate to start refilling it.

Chow down some french fries and a regular soda and you’re there.
Do you lose any REAL fat weight on a Low Carb Diet?

Probably not in the first three days–unless you cut 1200 calories out of your usual diet, too. But once you have gotten through the first week or two another benefit of low carbing kicks in that does make it much easier for most people to cut out the calories they need to cut to lose real fat.

That’s because when you cut out your carbs you eliminate the blood sugar swings that cause hunger in most people. The cravings you used to get when dieting may fade out in as little as two weeks. When you stop eating in response to those nasty hunger cravings, you will find it much easier to eat a whole lot less than you used to. It is the drop in calorie intake that follows this drop in hunger that that results in the very real and often dramatic weight loss so many long-term low carbers report.

Will you gain it all back when you go off the diet?

The real problem is that eating very low carb diets teaches people to eat a lot of fat, so that erstwhile low carb dieters who go off their diets but keep eating the high fat foods appropriate only to a low carb diet end up boosting their calories. If they don’t, once they refill their glycogen and put on the extra water weight associated with it they will not gain any more weight than can be explained by the old, boring equation, one pound of fat = 3,500 calories.The take-home message from this is if you are eating a very low carb diet you need to remember every time that every time you get on the scale your REAL weight–the weight you will be when you stop dieting– is whatever you weigh now plus whatever you lost during the first weeks of the diet when glycogen burns away.

If you go off plan for a day, don’t panic when you step on the scale. That instant three pounds is only water. Compare what you weigh–with the water–to what you weighed the last time you went off plan. It’s less, isn’t it? And that is REAL weight loss!

DIY MAKE UP CADDY

Ever have entirely too much make up and not one place to store it all? Well girl me too! I have way too much, but it’s all necessary when I want to look fabulous! I had a bunch of old boxes and toilet paper rolls lying around the house that I knew I would need for something I was trying to do. So I figured out what I wanted to do after watching few a DIY youtube videos.

I used items around the house to make this caddy. This literally cost me $2 bucks! I spent that on the contact paper for $1 and the glue gun which was also a dollar! Here’s the final product below:
